Steam vs. Hot Water Boilers
Steam Boilers
Steam systems heat water until it becomes steam, which rises through pipes to cast iron radiators. Common in pre-war homes throughout Lynn, Peabody, and historic neighborhoods. They require specific maintenance: proper water levels, regular blowdowns, functioning safety controls.
Hot Water Boilers
Hot water systems circulate heated water through baseboard heaters, radiators, or radiant floor tubing. More energy-efficient than steam and provide more consistent heat. Most new installations today are hot water systems.
